About Dr. Nwannunu

Brian Nwanunu, MD, MS, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with expertise in sports medicine and joint reconstruction. He sees patients at Alpha Orthopedics & Sports Medicine’s offices in Sherman and McKinney, Texas. 

Dr. Nwanunu earned his bachelor’s degree at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was part of the Morehouse College Honors Program. Upon graduation, he completed his master’s degree in physiology at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, with a concentration on complementary and alternative medicine. Dr. Nwanunu then graduated with his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, DC, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. 

Dr. Nwanunu completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the John Peter Smith Health Network in Fort Worth, Texas, before pursuing additional training with a fellowship in adult reconstruction at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. In addition to his clinical training, Dr. Nwanunu went on a medical mission trip to Antigua, Guatemala, to provide medical care and health education to populations in need. 

He is a member of the American Medical Association, National Medical Association, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated - Pi Chapter, and a member in training with the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons Arthroplasty. 

When not working, Dr. Nwanunu enjoys basketball, weight training, hiking and outdoor activities, attending art festivals, listening to jazz, and reading.
